Wedding Aisle Madness - The Foolishness of Getting Certain Wedding Tips From Wedding Magazines By Dr. Linda

Whats Wrong With This Picture?
Open Letter To Wedding Magazines

By Celebrity Wedding Officiator
Dr. Linda

Wedding Magazine editors or associated decision makers should ask, "In the Trench" professionals, to write their “Tips and Trends” articles for them! Shouldn’t the wedding professionals invent the trends based upon their practical and expert experiences? I have said that for years! Even volunteering to write about "All Things Ceremony" for groups like The Knot! In the end, when a bride attempts to utilize a “Wedding Trend Tip” from a non-expert Wedding Magazine writer, the professionals, those actually working with the couples, are inconvenienced!  See below…..? This is one of many examples as to why wedding magazine conglomerates need our help! Their writers don't appear to have officiated a wedding ceremony ever! What do they know?

Brides Read This, Then Look at The Knot Image!

Quote from Knot Website
"Did you know that rugs made of knotted yarn (called “rya”) are an important part of a traditional Finnish wedding ceremony? The couple would say their wedding prayers while kneeling on the colorful rug and then they later display it in their home. Today, the hot trend is to take rugs from your favorite design store or flea market and turn them into your ceremony aisle (tip: check with friends and family to see if they have any that might look pretty too!). If you do end up buying them, the best part is you can totally reuse the rugs in your home later and they make for easy set-up and clean up. It’s really a win-win. See the photos of couples who used rugs as aisle runners below! Rustic Woven Rugs on the Beach"

Look at this image! My officiator team laughed out loud! So, did I....! Bridesmaids, groomsmen, bride, groom, and me standing on this, as positioned on the beach sand! Do I have to paint a picture of the safety issues alone, or my experience with such dangerously unsecured wedding ceremony decorations! Don't get me started on the importance of safety in the ceremony environment. With all due respect.....to all of the Wedding Magazine conglomerates…… Please ask my officiators or  ceremony writing team to write your tips, trends and wedding story segments! They have actually presided wedding ceremonies! Wedding Ceremony Mythology: Some Things Just Need To Stay As They Are! By Celebrity Wedding Officiator Dr. Linda

At the wedding ceremony rehearsal, the maid-of-honour says, “Hey, I think that it would be really cool for the wedding officiator to stand with their back to the wedding guests! Don’t you!”  At first, this suggestion seems to defy convention, and provide an interesting option to the marrying couple.  Even gives the illusion of diminishing the perceived traditional dominance of the officiator in a standard pose and positioning. Without thinking it through, the bride and groom agree, and arrange accordingly. This is great, bride and groom will really stand out, the wedding guests will see them better……! So, what’s wrong with this?

Reason # 1 – This Wedding Officiator Says, “STOP!” – The Foreground Is Called The Foreground For A Reason!

Who is in the foreground will more naturally stand out in the pictures. This is also true for the live audience. Especially, when, the wedding officiator is on the same level as the guests. And, if there is not much difference in the elevation between the officiant’s position and the marrying couple.  See this publicly posted picture of such a configuration.

Do You Think Reason # 1 Is Valid?

Say What? Who Is Listening To The Wedding Ceremony Anyway? Marriage Ceremony Levity Or Truth?

“Sorry that I missed the wedding ceremony….. I got stuck on the freeway. Wow, there was a really bad accident! But, glad to make it to the reception!”

A cousin of mine once said, “A good speech should be like a woman's skirt: long enough to cover the subject and short enough to create interest!” Have you been to a wedding ceremony lately? I have, in fact, at them every week.  For the sake of disclosure, I am a Celebrity Wedding Ceremony Writer. Now that this is revealed here comes a polite but honest discussion about the wedding ceremony “goings on”.  Truth-be-told, wedding ceremony words are often boring, terribly written, rambling or inappropriate, and so forth. Not ours, of course, but the one that I read recently from another officiant unrelated to our Clergy & Wedding Officiants Network.

Most people do not care to speak publicly. And, when, a bride and groom, something about this fear or disinterest translates into disaster. Is there a societal expectation which assures a well presented wedding ceremony? I wish there was! And, if there were, so much of what traffics itself as a well-written marriage ceremony wording would be banned, and the seller jailed for indecent verbal exposure! Seems harsh, but really, if you were able to comment unfettered as “Anonymous” what would you really say?

Recently, a client presented me with local wedding officiator’s ceremony wording. This officiator was not with our group, as we custom write each of our ceremony events with the clients.  When reading this officiant's ceremony, there were more than a few concerns:

1.   The text was devoid of sectional “Headings”.  Important for the one reading to assist in the flow of presentation. Without “Headings” it is far too easy for the reading officiator to miss sections, or to import the wrong feeling to a section. Also, important when working toward the writing of the final ceremony draft. This, because continuity and flow for reading is easier to calibrate.

2.   The ideas presented in the text were out-of-order. Honouring the deceased groom’s mother toward the end of the ceremony. And, recognizing the couples’ children at an awkward juncture.

3.   There were no “Transitional Statements”. These are necessary, so that what was said before in an adjoining section, coalesces with the next section’s introduction. It also prepares the presenting officiator for the next segment, as to verbal cadence and feeling. Transitional Statements also have other important reasons.

4.   There was no “Sign-posting” as to who said what or whom was being addressed.

5.   It was not paginated for oral presentation in any way. Including as to the size of the print. The print should be larger in the officiator’s presentation draft.  This assists in reading without omission.   Also, the sentences were not “double-spaced” or sections spaced properly.  This also acts in prevention of missing a word or sentence or segment.

6.   The wording was redundant at best. A good ceremony takes hours to write. Remember my cousin’s quote at the start of this article.

In short, as a former Speech Professor, currently a Wedding Officiator, the received officiant’s text was a disaster waiting to happen. In fact, my client was confused.  And, this is why this couple was now my client.

Why Does This Happen? Should You Really Care?

Either people don’t know any better or don’t expect any more.  Let’s face it; the wedding ceremony has become a formality, something that people hope to get through! But, say it is not so! The words of a wedding ceremony should be at least as beautiful as the cake, the bridal gown, and anything else of beauty on the wedding day. The poor quality wedding ceremony wording and presentation does not need to be normative. But, in Southern California it is very usual occurrence.

So, I ask…. What are your suggestions on making the wedding ceremony more interesting? Should Internet Wedding Officiator Ordination groups be banned? (These groups do not require Wedding Officiants to be experts, but profit through ordaining anyone!) Should professional writers write the wedding ceremonies, and the officiants simply learn them? Should Wedding Officiants’ be certified in “Public Speech”?

The Bride Shot At Me - Social Networking Bride Gangs May Be Here To Stay By Celebrity Wedding Officiator, Dr. Linda

www.facebook.com/legallymarried

Part 1 - Series - An article to inform Wedding Services Professionals

Wedding professionals, due to my last few days on bride populated Internet social networking sites, “madness” has requested its domination. Of course, I refuse to say, “Yes” to its invitation to torment! Suffice it to say, event professionals, we may be in trouble! If your marrying couples are “High Enders”, perhaps this article is not for you. But, it could be. For those many wedding service providers delirious to find work at all or simply attracting the average bride, please join this series’ discussion.
.

News outlets have studied the unfavourable bonds formed within Social Media. Just today, a woman's Facebook post, featuring an image of her toned physique and her 3 young children, was barraged by 15,000 "name callers" (predominantly women)! And, for what? This young woman simply suggested it possible to be healthy and a mother of three young boys! Within a news story about this Facebook woman, the female commentator offered some descriptive words, often posted about herself, by social networking "name callers"! - Such as "whale", "elephant", "gorilla", and the like.  This news anchor also admitted a struggle with her body weight. To take a big leap, it seems that there is a viciousness inherent within this generation's Social Networking Culture, and it makes these women's experiences more normative than isolated. So, how does this translate within the "Wedding Planning Industry"? In keeping up with the world outside The Knot or Wedding Wire, there is an entire universe of engaged women, who might have possibly been brought to earth by sadistic alien beings! Let me describe our experience on just one of the more popular social networking “Mods” forums. My reason for keeping up with the new, newest and newer of the monstrously growing Internet social cafés might be different from yours, but you still need to know. This new kind of bride may be coming through your doors very soon. Here we are, never thinking that this group of wedding professionals would write about such a thing! - Especially, as birthed by their own experiences!

So, here goes….Did you know that there are actually on-line “Bride Gangs”! Yes, “Bride Gangs!” -- With the same mentality as any garden variety of “Gang”. There is a “Gangland”.  There is a “membership”. There is a “territory”.  There is a “creed”. There is a “policing force”. There are the “ruled” and the “ruling”!  And, unless you live there, you will not know the kind of things that go on.  It is enough to say, “Let’s all just only service the luxury bride, and forget the rest!”

Social Networking Forum - Bride Type 1 – The Bully or Enforcer

So, what is that to you? Perhaps, you don’t even frequent or visit these bastions of the engaged women. But, dear wedding professional, the kind of brides found in a wedding forum are not necessarily a fringe element. This is a generation of wedding customer, who might be here to stay for awhile!  And, that is a problem for the whole industry!

Let me introduce you to the first bride.  She was a sort of a “Greeter, Gangland Style!” Within, just a few moments of posting an informative article for discussion, her response:  “Get off of our site you ########! You are spamming, you ########.... We don’t want you here!” Now, do bear in mind, there is no sign on this forum which says, “Die Wedding Vendor Die!”  But, if she had fired a gun at me, I would be deceased! Seriously, what is wrong with this bride?  Apart from possessing only a "four letter word vocabulary"! What is this "false sense of territory"? Why is she so naturally "hostile"? What are her mental and emotional issues? This was a “Gun Moll” of the “Bride Variety”!  ... And, she had followers!

So, what was the nature of our unforgivable social act? What heinous crime did this wedding professional commit? Should I be executed for my crime? Now, don’t laugh but, I simply posted a link to an original article that was thoughtfully researched and compiled! Bringing to the light, a true concern for marrying couples. And, then asked if anyone would like to discuss it with me! Even inviting brides to help by adding to it also. This article's ideas were posited by me, a human behaviourist, caring person, and devout wedding professional. Couldn't another's experience and academic insight be helpful to a wedding planning bride-to-be? Now, because of this posting, I am amongst “America’s Most Wanted“! Shocked aren’t you? Well, you are not alone! Again, don't make the mistake of thinking that this Greeter Bully Bride was the only one like this on the wedding planning forum!

Should I Strike A Plea Bargain?
Let Them Run Me Out Of Town On A Rail?

In this Wedding Professionals Series, I hope that we might collaborate on “What to do next?” What adjustments to make, or not make. - Because, ladies and gentlemen this “Bridal Mafia” is amassing its army.  There is a clear message, that they don’t need us.  They are shouting, “We can get what we need on the Internet”!  Crystal-clear were their messages of contempt for my 24 years of wedding experience and education. (A “Bully Bride” actually wrote, “I am an expert…. I have been planning my wedding for 9 months!”) These brides were tired of us vendors promoting our websites or Facebooks! And, especially those "pesky" informative articles, whereby they might learn something! These brides were a tribe, a clan, a family! Wedding professionals, in our collaboration, I hope that this continuing series will arm us for our wedding industry futures!  In the meantime, “I am going back in. Cover me!”

For Discussion By Brides or Wedding Professionals experiencing the "Bride Gang" mentality on Wedding Planning Forums. For the purposes of suggesting, "How to bring generous expert assistance (via Social Networking), to those brides wanting it, but being blocked by bride-peers with personal agendas.

The New Look In “Wedding Crashers” - This Wedding Crasher Isn’t The Wedding Officiator, But, She Could Have Been! (True Wedding Story) By Celebrity Wedding Officiator Dr. Linda

www.facebook.com/legallymarried
United States - Oct 6, 2013 - Start with a beautiful Southern California night, then, note a brightly lit structure in the distant hills. And, now, imagine a second one, almost exactly like the first – With one structure parallel to the other, just on different hills.  Passing through a chain of green lights, you travel towards both hill-side palaces, just as it has quickly slipped into the night with the brightness of the sun replaced by twinkling party lights. Choosing the left gate and ascending the hill is altogether festive. There, along with the tender breezes at the top, are happily racing parking attendant-greeters and an amazing view of the Catalina Islands. Yet, as majestic as this moment might be, you are there to work!
Early, as usual, you exit your automobile. Immediately, you navigate the people crowded entrance, walk straight past the wedding venue’s hostess, and right down to the ceremony area. Surveying the layout, saying “hello” to the other wedding vendors, doing a microphone “sound – check”, and, so forth. There, diligently going through your pre-ceremony paces, always competent, helpful, and organized. – But, then, it happens, you hear the marrying couple’s first and last names mentioned….. Oops, your innocent mistake hits hard, much like that childhood “belly flop” on a swimming pool’s hard watery surface. And, under your breath, you say, “I am on the wrong hill!”   Now, you are not the usual “Wedding Crasher”, because you are a “Wedding Officiator!”  This kind of crashing is excusable, and even humorous, especially if it is by a diligent and legitimate marriage officiant. NoteBy the way, exiting quickly, but still early, the real officiator of this true story found her bride and groom at the wedding venue on the other hill!
Real Wedding Crashers Use Credit Cards Just Like Your Wedding Guests & Might Leave You With The Check!
At any large hotel, there could be three or four or five wedding celebrations in one four hour
www.facebook.com/legallymarried
time-block. In fact, as a wedding officiator, scouting out my contracted ceremony event, I have innocently walked into the wrong already happening reception and been greeted warmly by the unsuspecting! It is just that easy to do! So, what about the new wedding crasher? Are they drawn to the open bar and passed hors d'oeuvres at a wedding cocktail hour? Maybe, the monetary treasures in envelopes ready for picking on the gift table? Perhaps, he or she is using your wedding day much like a “dating service”.  Certainly, there could be those.
Human “creativity” is either noble or dastardly, and amid rising hotel rates, crashers are after your discount. You might say, “Oh well, the more the merrier!”, but, like with anything stolen from the innocents, enough of that kind of activity ruins it for others.  Then, the correction becomes corporal, much like punishing the whole fifth grade class just because of one obsessively pesky student transgressor.
The experts say today’s “Wedding Crasher” is getting in on the lower price connected with a block of rooms for a wedding or a corporate event. Apparently, rates are steeper during high-demand times such as wedding season or a busy convention period. And the wickedly resourceful know it. This crime of a “stow-away” or “camouflaged” wedding guest is so easily perpetrated. In fact, it is the 68 percent of the marrying engaged, with their public wedding websites doing the “aiding and abetting”. How you might ask?
www.facebook.com/legallymarried

The Good Thing That Is Also The Bad Thing

The simple act of the on-line posting of important wedding organizational details for genuine wedding guest attendees is the culprit.  For those “devious for a discount”, a wedding website provides guest information, such as where to book rooms and deal codes that often are not password-protected. Crashing a block is easy enough to do with just a quick search for "wedding block," (along with a location and date), yielding potential dozens of examples.
Wedding website couples, not-to-worry, and hotel purveyors don’t punish the “whole for the few”.  Even though “crashers” fly under the radar, it is easy to determine if one is a victim. Together, with a representative of the hotel hosting your wedding guests, go through the names in your discounted block regularly. If you don’t recognize a name or two, just let them know. If your “discount code” was used by a “Wedding Crasher”, the hotel might suggest the typical protocol for this offense.

Finally, a bit of a warning too … Realize that Hotels aren't overly concerned about crashers, as it's better to sell a room than have it go empty. So, engaged couples, this leaves it to you to thwart interlopers. Do be diligent to catch any crashers in your room blocks. Too many couples “asleep at the wheel” could result in legitimate guests' paying higher rates or being unable to book at all. Those not-caught uninvited can also leach right under your nose. Perhaps, even padding the bill for things you might pay for per head for your guests, such as breakfast, shuttle use or gift placed in rooms. Certainly, there may be other un-intended consequences. So, for all of us innocents, Happy “Wedding Crasher” sleuthing

Wedding Bell Blues Isn’t Her Something Blue – By Dr. Linda Wainwright Trott – Celebrity Wedding Officiator

Between Adoring Love & Frustrated Lament
This Singer Fluctuated

United States – September 26, 2013 - “Bill, I love you so, I always will…..through your compassion eyes of gray…” It was the 1960’s, and these words, strikingly belted out by songstress Marilyn McCoo, climbed to the top of the music charts.  “Am I ever going to see my wedding day…Oh, come on Bill!”   Back in that day, bopping along, either singing or humming during class changes throughout high school hallways every where, were young starry – eyed girls. From the Ed Sullivan show, and then into countless wedding chapels, this was to become every bride’s song -"Kisses and love won't carry me til you marry me Bill"…. The song title Wedding Bell Blues”.

“The 5th Dimension” (a musical group), recorded “Wedding Bell Blues” (1969) when band members Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr. were engaged. So, the "Marry me Bill" theme was certainly true to life. But, Davis isn't the song’s real "Bill." This music was written by 18 year old Laura Nyro. So, who was “Bill”? It was "Bill Carter," an actor who was having an affair with the jazz singer Helen Merrill.  Laura Nyro was related to Ms. Merrill by marriage.

Note: The Younger reader might remember the Wedding Bell Blues version of Jayma Mays, and her character Emma Pillsbury on the FOX television show Glee in the song's featured episode “Yes/No”.

But, Long Before 1969, Women Talked About “Blue” Too

Hundreds of years separate the 1969’s “Wedding Bell Blues” bitter- sweet saga from the tender symbolism of an English woman’s “Wedding Bell Blue”.  Not related at all, is one “blue” to another “blue”.  With the English custom of “Something Blue” are its companions “Old, New, Borrowed, and A Sixpence in the Bride’s Shoe.”(“Sixpence” is an old form of British coinage). - Each selected item has its succinctly punctuated wedding symbolisms.

This bridal tradition of “Something Blue” comes from an Old English rhyme ("Something Olde, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue, A Sixpence in your Shoe").  Each “Something” is an object added to the wedding outfit or, to be carried with the bride as wedding day good luck charms.  Something old represents continuity; something new offers optimism for the future; something borrowed emblems borrowed happiness; something blue stands for purity, love, and fidelity; and a sixpence in your shoe is a wish for good fortune and prosperity.

Do You Want To Bring This British “Blue” Custom

Into Your Wedding?

For some brides, a bit of history rings genuine. - Whether, due to ethnic identification or fascination, or resultant of family tradition. Showing off your sentimental choices is something that brides or their mothers do not often think about. As a bride what is significant to you, and why, is not always noted by wedding day others. But, do announce the traditions, as guest may find added enjoyment in your selection of meaningful things, such as “Something Blue”.  It will educate, make it interesting, give them something to discuss with others, and by “passing it on” bring added value to another’s future wedding planning.

Award Winning Photographer, Leslie adds her idea, "While 'something blue' is typically interpreted as a lace hankie, piece of jewelry, or a family heirloom, this stunning bride, Kelly, made 'something blue' her gown. Not for everyone to be sure, but it matched her sapphire wedding ring and beautiful blue eyes. "  www.ClickChicksPhotography.com

Wedding Manners Matter - By Celebrity Wedding Officiator - The Real Housewives of Orange County Wedding Tamra & Eddie - Dr. Linda

"Wedding Manners" - Whether a wedding professional, bride, groom or bridal party member.....No matter what beliefs, ethnic or religious background, certainly, good social manners matter at public celebrations. If they didn't, there wouldn't be such a thing as "Social Etiquette".  - Every generation has them. The rules themselves are standards motivated by respect for others. The demise of a societal group may be measured by the practice or omission of courteous attitudes and behaviours when publicly festive. Do you think that your dad or groom or wedding photographer, need a little help in that regard? The "Wedding Etiquette" shingle isn't held out much anymore.Yet, I could recount stories of others bad public behaviours before or during celebratory occasions. And, about how these selfish or inconsiderate acts ruin it for those the offender loves most. Not to mention the "forever" impression in the minds of those being impinged upon. So, we have invited Maria Erdman, an Elegant Life Style coach,  (www.seeseelifestyle.com) to gather up thoughts, facts, tips, stories and jokes (the one on our Facebook currently is from the 17th century), just for you to pass on or utilize in your wedding or celebratory occasion. Join in with your ideas and stories as well.  And, don't forget to encourage us with your on improvements.

Facebook Discussion on Maria Erdman's submitted joke from the 17th century! This discussion is about wedding couples and the importance of investigating the "Wedding Professional's Philosophy about "On-Time"  and  "Work Ethic"

Wedding Day - His Phone Rang. He Answered, And Then His Bride…….? A True Wedding Story By Celebrity Wedding Officiator & Writer Dr. Linda

Laughing, Chirping, Singing, Celebrating – So Far, So Good!

It was a lovely day at this Los Angeles Country Club. The wedding musicians confidently serenaded the arriving guests. The birds were singing, and the blooming sweetly scented flowers were importing fragrance throughout the ceremony garden. Unbeknownst to those present, was the sentimental and meaningful ceremony words diligently written by myself and the bride. They were in for a treat! Soon, there would be the big reveal!  Abuzz with excitement and anticipation attendees were properly in their finest “going to a wedding” attire.  And, then it was time. With the marrying couples’ parents and the guests snugly seated, the wedding party was poised to grandly enter.  With the cue, I, the groom and the groomsmen took our ceremony places.  After the bride and her father entered, the wedding officially began.  Thereafter, for a number of minutes, vibrant feelings and profound thoughts were spoken.  – The on-lookers’ faces were evident with enjoyment. The crowds’ body-language was amenable to the moment.  Simply put, we were all having a nice ceremony celebration!

The Solemn Air Thickens With Disapproval  - The Bad Timing of The Wrong Sound!

So far, so good! – A wedding ceremony to remember, and for all the most beautiful reasons.  Now, about 10 minutes from its start, we transition into the sentimentally significant moment. This poignant act of marriage vows exchange is that to which many look forward. – Especially, the bride and groomright?  In keeping with tradition, the groom began his vows. – Choosing, also the customary “repeat after the officiator” method. All is still well…. Then, the sweet ambiance was shattered! And, it was not funny! Yet, strangely tolerant was the bride. Yet, oddly compliant was the groom. What happened?

Right about the 2nd or 3rd “repeat after me” stanza of his marriage promises, the groom’s cell phone rang! From there, oblivious to the interested on-lookers scowling faces, he, the groom, answers the phone!  What does he say to the caller, “I am in the middle of my marriage vows…”   What does he say to me? ... “Could you stop for a minute, I need to take this!”  Seconds, after shock turned to disgust, it was “crystal” that the groom was engaged in a “business deal”!  What was the bride doing? Just waiting, that’s all!  And, as you already suspect, we all waited along with her! When the “business deal” was completed, I was cleared to proceed.

In conclusion, I am sure that others, beside my self were asking… “What in the world was that all about?”  … “After that brazen shenanigan, why didn’t the bride just tell him to get lost?”  Or, any number of colourful suggestions! Certainly, I pondered throughout my long ride home. Even to this day, I wonder.  Conjecturing, if he wasn’t there as a “groom”, then what about as a “husband”?  What about when her father passes away? Who holds her hand then?  Or, when she is in child-birth?  Will he be asking her to “hold on a minute, I have to take this call!”?  What about being there for any of life’s fast and weighty curve balls? But, again, the writing was on the wall.  Because, when a “groom”, he was vacant at best.  As a “groom”, he was simply unavailable to throw himself into the wedding planning with his beloved future wife.  From start to finish, and then, at strategic importance, during the pledging of his fidelity, he declared his heart elsewhere. This kind-of makes one think doesn’t it?  A Penny for Your Thoughts?
