Wedding Ceremony Mythology: Some Things Just Need To Stay As They Are! By Celebrity Wedding Officiator Dr. Linda

At the wedding ceremony rehearsal, the maid-of-honour says, “Hey, I think that it would be really cool for the wedding officiator to stand with their back to the wedding guests! Don’t you!”  At first, this suggestion seems to defy convention, and provide an interesting option to the marrying couple.  Even gives the illusion of diminishing the perceived traditional dominance of the officiator in a standard pose and positioning. Without thinking it through, the bride and groom agree, and arrange accordingly. This is great, bride and groom will really stand out, the wedding guests will see them better……! So, what’s wrong with this?

Reason # 1 – This Wedding Officiator Says, “STOP!” – The Foreground Is Called The Foreground For A Reason!

Who is in the foreground will more naturally stand out in the pictures. This is also true for the live audience. Especially, when, the wedding officiator is on the same level as the guests. And, if there is not much difference in the elevation between the officiant’s position and the marrying couple.  See this publicly posted picture of such a configuration.

Do You Think Reason # 1 Is Valid?

Hiring A Wedding Officiator is Like Trying on a Comfortable Pair of Jeans - By Celebrity California Wedding Officiator, Dr. Linda

Our LegallyMarried & The Clergy Network phone rang. On the dialing end was an officiator shopping bride. What was this bride's deal breaker? Would she know it was him or her when she met them? Perhaps, she would have a "good feeling". Definitely, not wanting a novice or someone without a background check? Right? Perhaps, it was all about price? Certainly, she wanted to hire a reliable one! Now, saying that, probably our most popular comment by a marrying couple is, "We are looking for just the right fit"! After 24 years, one could imagine how many times this was the recurring descriptive for filling the officiator position.

Now, its 2014, you are getting married. Is this your descriptive too? Then, this image, from the 1st ever Wedding Ceremony Art Gallery by a bunch of Celebrity Officiators, is my initial contribution. The Pin is at: http://www.pinterest.com/pin/412220172114744052/ But, there is more, if you are searching for 'Just the right fit" in a wedding officiator, let's talk. I would like to write a collaborative blog article with tons of brides about "Just the right fit". I have already written on this before, but, this is 2014! Let's start fresh. What does it mean when you say, “I am looking for just the right fit??” Regards, Dr. Linda

Wedding Manners Matter - By Celebrity Wedding Officiator - The Real Housewives of Orange County Wedding Tamra & Eddie - Dr. Linda

"Wedding Manners" - Whether a wedding professional, bride, groom or bridal party member.....No matter what beliefs, ethnic or religious background, certainly, good social manners matter at public celebrations. If they didn't, there wouldn't be such a thing as "Social Etiquette".  - Every generation has them. The rules themselves are standards motivated by respect for others. The demise of a societal group may be measured by the practice or omission of courteous attitudes and behaviours when publicly festive. Do you think that your dad or groom or wedding photographer, need a little help in that regard? The "Wedding Etiquette" shingle isn't held out much anymore.Yet, I could recount stories of others bad public behaviours before or during celebratory occasions. And, about how these selfish or inconsiderate acts ruin it for those the offender loves most. Not to mention the "forever" impression in the minds of those being impinged upon. So, we have invited Maria Erdman, an Elegant Life Style coach,  (www.seeseelifestyle.com) to gather up thoughts, facts, tips, stories and jokes (the one on our Facebook currently is from the 17th century), just for you to pass on or utilize in your wedding or celebratory occasion. Join in with your ideas and stories as well.  And, don't forget to encourage us with your on improvements.

Facebook Discussion on Maria Erdman's submitted joke from the 17th century! This discussion is about wedding couples and the importance of investigating the "Wedding Professional's Philosophy about "On-Time"  and  "Work Ethic"

Facebook Discussion of "Wedding Manners" When Dr. Linda Officiated Real Housewives of Orange County Wedding on June 15th 2013

Recently, after my Bravo T.V. wedding ceremony for The Reality Show - The Real Housewives of Orange County Tamra & Eddie, I received a number of compliments regarding the kindness and grace in my voice and in my deportment. Also, that these traits are not ones manufactured. Wedding or Celebrations Manners are more much more than "have to", they are public expressions of what a person values, and who they are or want to become. info@theclergynetwork.com - www.facebook.com/legallymarried - blog.theclergynetwork.com - www.pinterest.com/livingfestive

Terry's Sad Wedding Story - The Bride Cried And Cried And Cried! - He Was a Fake And He Ruined My Special Day!

Wedding Day Ruined
July 21, 2013Terry was usually a discriminating Southern California bride, but selected her Wedding Officiant without discerning interest. She decided without research,  "He is available and cheap, great, let's book him!" Her story is especially troublesome, in that it is a true - Terry, made a careless choice, and sadly, joined the ranks of a growing number of wedding ceremony nightmare stories.  After the fact, hearing that The Clergy Network of Southern California offered the only legitimately peer reviewed, experientially and academically refined officiators' group in Southern California, Terry contacted us.  "Help me", Terry said. "What do I do, he ruined my ceremony with bad jokes and didn't even file my marriage license yet! What recourse do I have?"  Terry, didn't know where to report a Wedding Clergy or Wedding Officiator concern in California. And, she didn't like our answer!

A Wedding Professional Asks Dr. Linda

"What is Up With The Influx of
Inexperienced & Untrained Wedding
Officiators In Southern California?"

So, you think, don't Wedding Officiators go through a peer review and training process... right? The answer,  "Wrong, not typically now. But, back in the day, yes! Now, it is over to the consumer to educate their own self, and without the old assumption that a Wedding Officiator is a Professional in the same way as any other professional. Locating those officiators still legitimately trained is essential. Back to poor Terry.... There was no one to help her, she had ruined her own wedding day by not doing her research and by making assumptions. But, how much is really Terry's fault, after all just about anyone can become a Wedding Officiator in California! And, the only peer review with the "Faux" Wedding Officiators is their on-line ordination providers billing of the yearly "officiator membership dues!

Southern California Bride at the Bridal Show Trends When Selecting A Wedding Officiant

At a recent bridal show, it was again affirmed that many couples not only pick their Wedding Officiants with reluctance, but they do so in complete ignorance! It seems tragic that something so important as the wedding ceremony is treated so casually. After all, the Wedding Clergy or Marriage Officiator has much control during the ceremony presiding. Once the wedding ceremony begins, they can say or do what they want, within their brand of reason. They can espouse their political, religious or other views. They can cut the ceremony short, make it longer, crack distasteful jokes, insult the cherished ideas of others, or any number of unsatisfactory things. Their words and actions will be in the minds of the wedding guests, the marrying couple's families, and the bride and groom for a potential life time! Shouldn't the memories be pleasant, bringing back fond recollections? There is only the one chance to "get it right"So, why so laid back, or trusting or uninformed about Wedding Officiants?

Show Me Your Officiator Related Academic and Peer Reviewed Accomplishments And Then I Will Decide!

At the bridal shows, marrying couples seemed to be more concerned about price than the service being contracted. Or, just the things that "glitter or taste good". Perhaps its the economy or something more permanent - a shifting in the culture, which devalues the role of Wedding Officiator. Let's face it, the traditionally serious nature of the sacred tradition of the marriage ceremony has eroded in the last few decades. - "Let's just get this over with, and then get to the party!" is often the mantra!  But, what about considering the older generations attending or the children? And, in actual fact, what about appealing to self-interest, as what couple really wants their ceremony to offend or to be poorly executed!

So, shouldn't a bride and groom or a referring event professional say to the officiator "Show me your legitimately earned academic degrees and experiential pedigree before we book or recommend you? Did you become a Wedding Clergy, Officiator or Celebrant the legitimate way? Like when selecting other wedding professionals, should not informed research be incorporated into the decision making process? What about professional references? Will the prospective Wedding Officiant provide a "real" contract with specific services outlined? Will the Wedding Officiator guarantee qualified emergency backup in the event of their illness? Will the contracted Marriage Minister be the one actually presiding on the wedding day? As to their personal appearance, will the Wedding Officiant wear what the couple requests? Will the Marriage Celebrant provide and then stick to the ceremony wording chosen by the marrying couple? Will the presiding officiator file the marriage license in a proper and timely manner? What is the Wedding Officiator's history in any regard? Is the referring event professional receiving a "Kick- Back" from the officiator or advertising in their Wedding Venue publication. There are so many things to know about selecting a Wedding Officiant and Terry did not know them!

With the rise of Wedding Officiant "fakes", it is even more of a problem than before! Concerned only about money or promoting their personal views or stroking their ego, illegitimate Wedding Officiants are duping brides and grooms in the Southern California area. There were three cases alone in the last few years surrounding "On-line Ordained Officiators" disappearing  with couples deposits or not filing over 100 marriages licenses before disappearing. Some might say, "Well the couple gets what they deserve. After all they should have done their research!". Whatever your opinion, it is our mission, here at The Clergy Network of Southern California, as genuine Wedding Officiants, to say a few words about the subject. Our hope is that there will be less "Terrys'" out there, and more couples with great wedding ceremony memories!

What Else Really Happened To Terry The Bride During Her Marriage Ceremony?

The only recourse that Terry might have was through a court of law. After all, as poorly a job the officiator did, he still showed up! She had no contract stating expectations. The officiator offered no assurance of the ceremony wording content. His poor taste in jokes were never agreed to or not. His lack of contact with the couple, loosely securing his service via telephone and e-mail, led to his unfamiliarity with the couple's first and last names. As wrong as the officiator was about his behaviour during the wedding ceremony, Terry was still legally married! Terry opted for the officiator's "legal right to bind the marriage", and nothing more. Terry got that for which she paid, and, as a result, did she pay!

So, what else did the marriage officiator do to ruin Terry's wedding day? Well a number of things! Apart from the bad jokes, poor delivery of the text, getting the couple's respective first names wrong, etc, another of the most troubling was Terry's having to publicly correct this Southern California Wedding Officiator numerous times during the ceremony! From the beginning, when the Wedding Officiant asked, "Who gives this woman to be married to this man?", Terry had to give commentary. Her shouted response to the Wedding Officiant's goofs, "Mom, I didn't tell him to say that!" It got worse from there. Choose your Wedding Officiant wisely!

March 17, 2011 - Dale Carnagie said, "Only the prepared speaker deserves to be confident."  How much more true is this when a Wedding Officiant. If you think this is not true, as a Wedding Officiant make a mistake during the presiding of the wedding ceremony!  There will be some "explaining to do!" Moreover, at any point, during the wedding ceremony planning, the smallest detail left untidy can send many a bride reeling! How much more so, on the wedding day! Yet, with the "fake" Wedding Officiant trend, few understand the importance of preparing for the profession. It is almost as if wedding professionals and marrying couples think that all one has to do is "just stand up there and talk!" This is an unfortunate myth, and a dangerous one at that! It implies lack of understanding as to what goes into being a bona fide Wedding Officiant!

At The Clergy Network - Orange County & Los Angeles Wedding Officiants - our pre-ceremony & ceremony day checklist is about 62 pages - We know Dale Carnagie would be proud!

Maison Des Oliviers - www.legallymarried.com - Orange County Wedding Location & Wedding Officiants

Why A Private Orange County Wedding Location Over A Larger Hotel Or Wedding Venue?

More specially,  in larger venues, such as hotels, some country clubs and the like, more than one wedding takes place at the same time. This leads to confusion and a diminishing of the specialness of a couple's wedding day. At a private wedding ceremony location, there is no running into 5 or 6 other brides walking through a hotel lobby, all on the way to their own ceremonies. No concern over standing in line with other couples to take wedding pictures at the best area locations. No lost wedding guests, wondering if they are at the right wedding ceremony? Wedding gifts placed at the wrong couple's gift station! For one very smart and lucky bride and groom , simply a day, just their own. The Maison des Oliviers, in San Juan Capistrano, is such a lovely idea. As a private owner occupied estate home, once booked, the location is yours for the day! Lorrie de Bellis, Wedding Event Coordinator ,  lorrie.debellis@gmail.com , is the person to contact for a private walk through Maison des Oliviers. It’s Not Your Mother’s Marriage Ceremony ….. Or Is It? By Dr. Linda Of www.legallymarried.com

March 5th 2011 - Traditional & Usual Wasn’t Their Style – But, Rather Sentimental & Participatory & Engaging! A Younger Wedding Ceremony Mindset for A New Century!

Clara And John - As a Bride and Groom, A Pleasant Surprise !

After a complete survey, during the ceremony planning session with Dr. Linda, this 50 something wedding couple “saw the technological light”. This is why!

Clara and John are a happy age-matured couple, and at the threshold of a second marriage. Their minds were clear with the assertion that this marriage ceremony would be all the previous ones had not been. Their former marriage ceremonies were as dull and lifeless and insignificant as the marriages they left behind. But, this wedding ceremony was going to be a “microcosm” of their definitive commitment to a marriage which would end only with the death of one or both! Although living most of their adult life in the 20th century, they were searching for meaningful wording, ideas and unique participation. This couple chose to use new technology in their nuptial ceremony, on the suggestion of The Clergy Network Wedding Officiants of Southern California. A brain child of Dr. Linda Wainwright Trott, TCN’s newest ceremony think tank is providing captivating ideas for 21st century life celebrations!

The American Wedding Ceremony Not Being Redefined by The 21st Century Bride? Or is it?

How Does The Younger Generation See The Marriage Ceremony?

The American bride might or might not be ready to alter the essential core of the wedding ceremony. In short, trending away from the expected marriage ceremony wording and inclusions to something more this century remains to be seen. After all, what is this century all about, for it is merely a newborn in the sands of human time?

As Wedding Ceremony Writers & Presiders, The Clergy Network Wedding Officiants of Southern California seem some what alone in the new style scripting of the “I Do” celebrations for this generation. This kind of scripting takes acumen, and few possess this. It takes marrying couples wanting to think differently.  Yet, on the technological front, yes, brides and grooms are using new technology to plan or research, but the corporate mind of twenty – somethings is not yet geared to thinking differently about the nuptial ceremony. The perception is that the wedding ceremony is a necessary evil to please family and friends, something that has an unchangeable format, or is the way it is because the “law” says so.

It just takes time for a new culture to define itself – perhaps the couples of this current generation are to close to the 2oth century to recalibrate. Maybe, they just need to know that there are alternatives. Or, we just need to excite them a bit more to expression. And, yet, what is true about the marriage ceremony, as we westerners have know it, is that it has its timeless elements – These things do not essentially change. Nor, should they? Committed Love, lasting marriage, a healthy family life and the pursuit of a true happiness that overflows to the benefit of others, need always be fashionable and trendy and present – These are some of the absolutes that stand alone in each generation!

What About Clara and John? How Did Their 21st Century Style Wedding Ceremony Turn Out!

This more 21st century minded couple, sought participation from the represented generations on their wedding day. From the custom written ceremony wording to the partnership of family members during the ceremony, it was simply charming. But, the prerecorded dialogue between the bride and groom, complete with background music, this was a 21st century super star! http://www.legallymarried.com/  was the perfect match for this future reaching couple; perhaps we have started a few new trends, just for this century’s brides and grooms. We will write more about “21st Wedding Trends”, of which we hope to be the “Trend Setters”!

How To Include A Friend In Your Southern California Marriage Ceremony - www.legallymarried.com

A Friend Is A Friend Is A Friend – Including A Friend In Your Marriage Ceremony!

Copyright - The ClergyNetwork - February 19th 2011

Someone once said that “Friendship isn't a big thing - it's a million little things.” Including a friend or friends in a marriage ceremony is a pleasant trend. In writing a marriage ceremony, which includes the interaction of others, a few thoughts start the planning. Questions, such as, Whom? Where? When? How? Each question needs some thought.

Custom Written Wedding Ceremony Which Includes Friends Participation

The “Who” answer, can be simple or complicated. Simple, if one finds no reason to choose between so many friends, that others will be hurt when not included. - The decision is clear cut as to whom. Complicated, if the close friendships are many, too numerous to not breed confusion and exclusion. In any event, if one or many, a friend or friends, may participate well before the ceremony day. In advance, by submitting their personally written well wishes or poems or selected reading of marriage quotes or collected advice from family and friends. Or, by researching and adapting a wedding custom to fit the bride's and groom's lifestyle.

In short, friends may participate by providing original materials prior to the ceremony day, or bringing surprise words of love and encouragement during the ceremony itself. Friends participation can be segregated on the basis of interest or talent or closeness of relationship. There are those who provide the word and idea resources for others to implement, and those who will actually do the presenting during the ceremony. Whether signing as a witness on a decorative marriage certificate during the ceremony or reading quotes about love and marriage or giving a gift, on behalf of the bride and groom, to their parents, a friend  can participate in the marriage ceremony, far beyond that of standing wedding party. We have many ideas and will write more on the subject at another time.

In the meantime, if you are having a 2011 Southern California wedding ceremony … The Clergy Network of Southern California, writes and presides custom interactive wedding ceremonies. Not cut and paste excerpts from trite and overused materials found on the Internet, but custom written! We know how to include a friend or friends a marriage ceremony, before the day, or on the day.

Southern California - What Makes A Person A Legitimate Wedding Officiant, Wedding Minister or Wedding Clergy? - www.legallymarried.com

February 9, 2011 – A Bride asks her Orange County California Event Coordinator - “…We have a lay officiant conducting our ceremony, he is from San Diego county and he wanted to make sure that he would be able to perform the ceremony in Orange county. Do you know if he needs to have a license from orange county in order to perform the ceremony?...”

PROBLEM - INTERNET ORDINATION - Calfornia State Has Some Control Over Legitimacy, But Not Over Competency Or Quality Of Service!

How does a bride and groom know that their Wedding Officiant or Wedding Minister or Civil Ceremony Officiant is legally able to preside (solemnize) a marriage ceremony in California state or in a county of  that state's jurisdiction? Good questions…let us answer the question generally first.

The State of California posts the following as a legitimate Wedding Officiant, Wedding Minister or Wedding Clergy. Please note that “authority” to preside a wedding ceremony does not speak to the issue of competency! Any group can form a “religious non-profit”, and “ordain for profit”, thus so many tragic wedding stories of couples weddings ruined by officiators who only purchased the “authority” to marry via the Internet. This is an illegitimate way to become an officiator, without education or training in public speech presentation, marriage law, ceremony writing, social psychology, etc., there is no competency -  the obligation is not taken seriously! “Pocket change” wedding officiants are phenomena in this current economy. The state of California’s CDC posts the following:
"4. What authorization do I need to perform a marriage in California?

• In California, it is the ordination or investment by the denomination that gives each clergy member the authority to perform the marriage rite. Family Code, Sections 400-402 are the statutes pertaining to who can solemnize a marriage in California.

5. What statutes do I need to know to perform a marriage in California?

• The marriage officiant who performs the marriage ceremony must know the California laws regarding the performance of a marriage and the requirements for officiants. Family Code, Sections 420-425 are the statutes pertaining to the performance of a marriage in California. Please visit http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/  for the full Family Code sections.

Who Do I Contact To Ascertain My Proposed Wedding Officiant's Legitimacy?

The State of California will not confirm the legitimacy of any Wedding Officiant, Wedding Minister or Wedding Clergy! To find out if your Wedding Officiant, Wedding Minister or Wedding Clergy is ordained or invested by their denomination, ask for paperwork or information on whom to contact for verification of the same. If from an Internet Only Ordination Group (posing as non-profit, but acting for profit only) , know that there is no education, training or background check of the applicant required, and that the "ordination fee" is what grants a person the "right to preside" a marriage ceremony.  After this illegitimate ordination or investement via the Internet, no matter how bad a job they do or unethical they are, these Wedding Officiants only have to pay their yearly fee to remain "ordained"! After all, for these fake denominations and religions, it is all about the profit margin ! Also, if the Wedding Officiant holds legitimate earned titles, such as “Doctor”, they may or may not be ordained or invested. Likewise, the title "Doctor", "Reverend", "Clergy" may also be purchased for a fee on-line!
